I believe that we are currently living through the most exciting period for photography since Muybridge revolutionized the medium with his fast-exposure images of horses running. The emergence of digital technology for capture and processing, the stunning and unsung development of off-camera lighting technology, and the social impact of the Internet have changed photography in ways that scholars will be studying for decades to come.
I am excited to be a part of this revolution. As photography begins to encompass an ever-wider field of artistic techniques and technological innovations, I believe that the one thing that a photographer cannot afford to do is to become complacent. I shoot every day, and I am constantly on the look-out for ways to change my practice and broaden my skills.
I love photography in all its forms, but I take special joy in capturing and portraying people: an honest portrait for your website/profile, a loving portrayal of a couple, or stylized visual art referencing stories embedded deep in the zeitgeist.
I am not alone. None of the images I create would be possible without a host of supporters and influences, from my world-wide community of friends on flickr to the famous photographers whose work I admire, and from my local friends who indulge my requests for them to pose, to the (invaluable) critical eye of my wife, every image I produce is the product of hundreds of little things leading up to one critical moment. I hope you'll join me for that moment sometime soon.
